Mr. Money
Funny thing happened over the kids' Thanksgiving break. Evan has had one of his top teeth loose for quite a while. We kept telling him he really needed to get it out, but there was always some excuse. It was hanging on by a bit, really grossing me out every time he talked to me. So while everyone was over at our house for Klesner Thanksgiving, a few people mentioned that they'd give him a dollar if he pulled his tooth out. Well, if you know Evan at all, you know that money talks to this kid! If you or your kids have ever read "Double Fudge" by Judy Blume... Fudge = Evan. So, within 5 minutes the tooth was out & he was counting his money. Then he counted the people. It didn't all add up. I had to explain not every guest had pledged him a dollar for his tooth. Funny kid, but yes, slightly embarrassing! I hope it's not a holiday when he's ready to lose his next tooth, or our guests may stop attending!
the trumpet
Soon after school started this year, Collin came home beaming... he wanted to join the band. He knew almost immediately that he wanted to play the trumpet. Of course we had the same discussion we have any time he decides he wants to "try" something. We've had a few times in the past where he gets all fired up about doing something only to get his feelings hurt or just give up all together, so we're always holding back a little. Still wanting to encourage him to join in on things, I went to the band meeting with him & that night, he made his final decision on the trumpet & he started practice the following week. I tell you what... the kid is pretty darn good for the short amount of time he's been playing. He's more than happy to pull it out when we have people over & play for them. He even had a mini-concert for my family at Thanksgiving. This week is supposed to be the band's first concert together. I can't wait to hear them all together... if the yucky weather doesn't ruin the plan, that is. Great job Collin... we're proud of you :)
Grateful for a great holiday
We were a busy bunch over Thanksgiving. Our home hosted 2 Thanksgiving dinners & some overnight guests & lots of busy-ness! Thankfully we had healthy kids & most everyone could make it. It is so nice getting together with everyone to share good food & just be able to talk & enjoy each others company. Dan's brother Allen had to spend Thanksgiving in the hospital unfortunately, but seems to be doing pretty well now at home. We were very thankful that his mom was able to make it out & that his dad got to have some "away time" as well! We continue to pray for everyone to be well :)
I got in on some black Friday shopping, which I was going to avoid, but caved & decided to venture out to a few places with my mom & sister. I actually had some pretty good luck & the crowds weren't too awful. Then I made it back home to decorate the house for Christmas! I was so happy to have a relaxing afternoon to just do that. It seems in prior years I have put it off & end up getting so busy I have to just throw everything up & it's not any fun! Everything is going to get pretty crazy over the next few weeks before Christmas with work projects, Christmas programs, basketball & oh yeh, I'm lucky enough to get to travel to Florida with Reminisce right before the holiday!!!! Right now all the kids know is that I'm going on a work trip. Believe me if I made mention of where I'm going, I'll never hear the end of it!
This afternoon Dan & I are traveling to Iowa City for a little Christmas shopping & the Reminisce holiday dinner. We're pretty excited to get some time away with each other & getting together with the Reminisce group is always so much fun! I'm really so very blessed to have such great people to work with {& for}. Speaking of Reminisce, it would be a smart thing to hop on over to blog to check out all the great things going on... I'm talkin' Design team search & a travel contest! Lots of cold hard cash & prizes are just waiting to come your way!!! Good luck everyone!
